CS2 and Esports News Digest – September 8-14, 2026

We had some pretty important developments on the CS2 scene in the last week. Namely, Legacy claimed another international trophy, Valve’s delayed September ranking created problems for tournament organisers, and several teams secured places at upcoming LAN events. There was also movement behind the scenes, with Eternal Fire bringing back a familiar coach.

This Week’s Highlights

• Legacy sweep G2 to win FISSURE Playground 3: Legacy defeated G2 3-0 in the grand final in Suzhou to claim the FISSURE Playground 3 trophy on September 13. The Brazilian squad won Ancient, Mirage and Dust2, with latto earning the tournament MVP award. It was Legacy’s third title in China, reinforcing their position among CS2’s leading international teams.
  
• Valve’s delayed September VRS causes tournament-organiser issues: Valve released its September Regional Standings later than expected, creating complications for organisers that had scheduled invitation and seeding dates around the usual ranking release. Valve initially backdated the ranking before correcting problems involving results from unfinished events. The incident mattered because VRS positions directly influence invitations and seeding across the professional CS2 circuit.
  
• Liquid, TYLOO, DENDELE and Nemiga qualify for PGL Masters Bucharest: Four teams secured the final places at PGL Masters Bucharest through regional qualifiers completed this week. Liquid advanced from North America, TYLOO from Asia, DENDELE from South America and Nemiga from Europe. The October tournament will be especially important because it takes place shortly before the VRS cut-off for PGL Major Singapore invitations.
  
• Virtus.pro qualify for Thunderpick World Championship: Virtus.pro completed a long closed-qualifier run to secure a place at the $1 million Thunderpick World Championship in Malta. The rebuilt roster defeated teams including FOKUS, HEROIC and HOTU during the qualifier. Their recent results also pushed Virtus.pro back into the VRS top 30, giving the organisation a possible route towards the PGL Major Singapore.
  
• Fabre returns as Eternal Fire head coach: Eternal Fire appointed Sezgin “Fabre” Kalaycı as head coach on September 11, replacing Yiğit “yT” Özden. Fabre previously coached the organisation from 2022 to 2025 before moving with its former roster to Aurora. His return reunites him with jottAAA and soulfly, while also giving him responsibility for the first English-speaking roster of his coaching career.
