CS2 and Esports News Digest — August 15–21, 2026

The professional CS2 scene is all about the Esports World Cup playoffs in Paris this week, where several leading teams suffered early exits. Elsewhere, major organisations confirmed tournament invitations, contract extensions and a notable switch away from women’s Counter-Strike. A major international esports competition was also postponed. Below are some of the key professional CS2 and esports developments from August 15 to 21.

This Week’s Highlights

  • Legacy upset NAVI as EWC playoffs eliminate major contenders: Legacy defeated Natus Vincere 2-0 in the Esports World Cup round of 16, while Vitality eliminated FaZe and FURIA later beat G2 to reach the semi-finals. The results removed several established contenders from the $2 million CS2 tournament before its August 23 grand final at the Accor Arena.

  • Vitality extend ZywOo and apEX contracts through 2028: Team Vitality secured the long-term futures of Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and captain Dan “apEX” Madesclaire. Keeping the team’s star AWPer and in-game leader under contract provides stability around two central figures in one of professional CS2’s most successful recent line-ups.

  • FURIA, G2 and Astralis join the FISSURE Playground 3 field: FISSURE confirmed seven more invitations for its September CS2 event in Suzhou, adding FURIA, 9z, FUT, G2, Astralis, BIG and GamerLegion. Fifteen teams are now confirmed for the $1 million tournament, with the final place reserved for the winner of the Asian closed qualifier.

  • FURIA’s women’s roster moves from CS2 to VALORANT: FURIA announced that its entire women’s Counter-Strike roster will transition to VALORANT after six years with the organisation. The team won ESL Impact League Season 7 and reached three earlier league finals. Its departure is another major setback for women’s CS following the indefinite suspension of the ESL Impact circuit.

  • Inaugural Esports Nations Cup postponed until 2027: The Esports Foundation moved the first Esports Nations Cup from November 2026 to November 2027 after assessing the wider regional situation. The delay affects national teams, publishers and partners across multiple games, including CS2, although the organiser said its development funding and national esports programmes will continue.

Hello there! I am Mario, a devoted gamer who has been in the industry ever since I learned how to walk. It all started during the old Counter-Strike 1.6 days when I was first introduced to the concept of CS serials. Ever since I have been madly in love with the franchise and spent countless hours attacking and defending bombsites.

Alongside Counter-Strike 1.6, Global Offensive, and now Counter-Strike 2, I also played other popular multiplayer titles including League of Legends, Dota 2, and Valorant. I also touched base on Overwatch, but never really clicked with that type of shooter.

On my attempted journey to become a pro, life caught up to me, and now I ended up with a solid knowledge of both the gaming and the gambling industry. Luckily, I found my sweet spot in the HellaGoodMarketing team where I can present you with various guides, tips, and tricks that will both make you a better player and a smarter gambler.

By taking a closer look at any of my pieces, you will find out that all of my work is based on facts that I verified or experienced myself. So no, I am not bringing an industry standard to you based on fake and un-tested information. All of the pieces coming from me are verified and legit.

Alongside playing video games with my lifelong friends, I am also a massive fan of soccer and tennis. If you can’t find me in the Counter-Strike 2 lobby, then I am either watching my local team compete or I am out there enjoying tennis.

Write your biography as a Gamer/Gambling writer: topics, experience, your interests (not only gaming), etc. Write why you are a gamer writer. Describe your role in HellaGoodMarketing and its impact on the gaming industry.
