The past week brought the start of the CS2 Esports World Cup, a major opening-round upset, and several important tournament announcements. FaZe also finalised a roster move, while ESL revealed the teams invited to its next Pro League season.

• The CS2 Esports World Cup began in Paris on August 12 with 32 teams competing for $2 million. The main event uses four double-elimination groups, starting with best-of-one matches before switching to best-of-three series. Sixteen teams will progress to the playoffs, with the tournament concluding in a best-of-five grand final on August 23.

• JiJieHao stunned Spirit 13–10 on Mirage in their Esports World Cup opener. The qualifier team recovered from a 5–1 deficit and closed the match despite resistance from Danil “donk” Kryshkovets. The result sent Spirit into the lower bracket and demonstrated the upset potential created by the tournament’s opening best-of-one round.

• Falcons reached the Esports World Cup playoffs after defeating Astralis 2–0. The Cologne Major champions won Ancient 13–7 before closing Dust2 13–11, with Nikola “NiKo” Kovač leading their performance. Falcons secured a place in the round of 16, while Astralis moved into the lower bracket for another qualification opportunity.

• FaZe permanently signed Ryan “Neityu” Aubry following his four-month loan from ENCE. The French rifler initially joined as Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s replacement and helped FaZe reach four semi-finals across five tournaments. The agreement confirms Neityu as part of the organisation’s long-term roster rather than a temporary stand-in.

• ESL announced the invited teams for Pro League Season 24, scheduled for October 3–11 in Katowice. Spirit, Falcons, Vitality, MOUZ, G2 and FURIA are among the 12 VRS invitees. They will join four ESL Challenger League regional winners in a 16-team Swiss group stage, with eight teams advancing to the playoffs at the Spodek Arena.

• paiN replaced BetBoom at BLAST Open Porto after visa issues forced the Russian team to withdraw. paiN received the spot as the highest-seeded runner-up from the closed qualifier. The change gives the Brazilian roster entry into the $1.1 million tournament and removes a current top-10 VRS team from the field.

• The IEM Beijing 2026 invitation list was announced, with Falcons, MOUZ and NAVI among the confirmed teams. Vitality and Spirit declined their invitations, allowing PARIVISION and FaZe to enter the $1.25 million tournament. Liquid, 9z and The MongolZ received regional places, while three remaining spots will be decided through the Global and Asia Closed Qualifiers.
