CS2 and Esports News Digest: September 15-20, 2026

CS2 dominated this week’s esports headlines. Perfect World confirmed the return of the Major to Shanghai, several organisations changed their active line-ups, and the Thunderpick World Championship field was revealed. The week ended with Vitality returning to winning ways at StarLadder StarSeries Fall in Barcelona.

This Week’s Highlights

• Perfect World confirmed the 2027 Shanghai Major. Shanghai will host the second CS2 Major of 2027, scheduled for 22 November to 12 December. It will be Perfect World’s second Major after the 2024 edition, which became the first Counter-Strike Major staged in Asia. The announcement confirms another major international event for China’s growing CS2 scene.

• The MongolZ benched DarkMeister and tikuak. The organisation removed both players from its active roster after only two months and nine matches together. The decision followed 9th-16th place at the Esports World Cup and a last-place exit from FISSURE Playground 3. The MongolZ now need two replacements before PGL Masters Bucharest in October.

• Falcons and FURIA headed the Thunderpick World Championship line-up. The eight-team field also includes Aurora, Legacy, 9z, BETBOOM, PARIVISION and qualifier Virtus.pro. The $1 million CS2 LAN will run from 14 to 18 October in Malta. Its timing makes the tournament an important opportunity to earn Valve Regional Standings points before the Singapore Major invitation cutoff.

• PARIVISION brought HObbit back into its starting five. The experienced Kazakh rifler replaced 18-year-old slaxejezzz, who moved to the bench and became available for loan. HObbit previously represented PARIVISION as a stand-in and helped the team finish second at XSE Pro League Guangzhou. His return adds experience to a roster already featuring Jame, FL1T, zweih and xiELO.

• Wildcard signed fr3nd on loan and benched mhL. Polish AWPer Sebastian “fr3nd” Kuśmierz joined from PURE for his second spell with the organisation, replacing compatriot Miłosz “mhL” Knasiak. The change gives Wildcard a new primary sniper before iBUYPOWER Masters FML, where fr3nd is expected to debut against NRG on 25 September.

• Vitality won StarLadder StarSeries Fall. Vitality defeated Aurora 3-1 in Barcelona to claim their first trophy since BLAST Rivals in May. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut produced a 1.51 rating in the grand final after Vitality had already beaten FURIA earlier that day. The result marks a timely return to form ahead of ESL Pro League and the Singapore Major.
