CS2 and Esports News Digest — September 21-27, 2026

It’s all about CS2 this week. We witnessed that a long-running organisation confirmed its closure, a roster move changed one team’s Major qualification route, and ESL revealed how it seeded the next Pro League season. A tournament final, a player absence and a gameplay change also drew attention.

This Week’s Highlights

• Complexity confirms its closure. On September 23, former owner and CEO Jason Lake announced that Complexity had wound down operations at the end of 2025. Lake also confirmed his departure after 23 years. The announcement formally closes a chapter for one of Counter-Strike’s longest-running organisations, which left the game in 2025.

• BC.Game changes its CS2 roster and VRS region. BC.Game benched Denis “electroNic” Sharipov and signed Tyson “asap” Paterson on September 22. With asap joining Senzu and mzinho, the team now has a majority-Asian core and moves from Europe to Asia in Valve’s regional standings. That changes its route towards an invitation to the PGL Singapore Major.

• Valve adds a silent reload mechanic. A CS2 update released during the week lets players reload quietly by holding the reload key, at the cost of a slower reload. Unscoping a sniper rifle also no longer makes a sound. Both changes affect information opponents can hear, making them more relevant to competitive play than the update’s other additions.

• ESL reveals Pro League Season 24 seeding. ESL announced the seeds on September 25 ahead of the event’s Swiss group stage. The 16 participating teams ranked their opponents, with the resulting averages determining the seeds. Spirit placed first, followed by Vitality and Falcons. The announcement also established the opening matchups for the upcoming LAN event.

• HEROIC wins the Stockholm final. HEROIC beat 100 Thieves 2-1 on September 26 to claim the Stake Pulse Beat II title. They recovered from an opening-map loss and saved two championship points on Ancient before winning the decider. It was the roster’s second LAN trophy since adding Brollan and MartinezSa in the summer.

• Legacy names a stand-in for ESL Pro League. Legacy announced on September 27 that in-game leader Andrei “arT” Piovezan would miss Season 24 while recovering from meningitis. Analyst Pedro “bobz” Rocha will stand in at the Katowice event. The change leaves Legacy preparing for a major tournament without its usual caller, shortly after winning FISSURE Playground 3.
